Matthew Bauer became interested in acupuncture and Chinese philosophy after
meeting Master Ni, a 37th generation Chinese doctor in 1978. Matthew began
studying Taoism (ancient Chinese philosophy) with Master Ni at that time and
enrolled in acupuncture school in 1983. After graduating and passing the California
Acupuncture Licensing exams, Matthew began practicing in 1986 when he founded the Holistic Care Center in San Dimas.
In 1989 Matthew studied Qi-Gong and related advanced healing techniques with
Master Si-Tu Ji, as well as having studied with respected acupuncturists and herbalist
from China, Japan, Korea and Europe. Matthew incorporates aspects of Qi-Gong
together with acupuncture, acupressure, and massage techniques in his treatment
sessions as well as working with Chinese Herbs, nutritional education and general lifestyle
counseling.
In addition to his practice, Matthew has worked in various ways to help educate the
public about the value of Chinese Medicine and make this form of healing more available
to all. He served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the California
Acupuncture Association, a Blue Ribbon panel of acupuncture experts advising the California
Acupuncture Board, and continues to work as an advisor for American Specialty Health, the
nations largest insurance company that specializes in providing insurance plans for
Complementary/Alternative Medicine methods. Matthew also writes a regular column for
acupuncturists in Acupuncture Today (see our "links" sidebar), the largest publication servicing the acupuncture
profession, and gives talks on Chinese Medicine to both the public and acupuncture profession.
In 1998, Matthew was honored by his Alma matter, Yuin University, when they awarded him
an honorary Ph. D. in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in recognition to his contributions to
the field. In early 2005, Matthew's book on acupuncture, tentatively title "Exploring the Mystery of Acupuncture", is scheduled for release.
