Nutritional Counseling

Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive system that includes dietary/nutritional counseling. Chinese nutrition is different from modern nutrition as it is based on concepts of the subtle energy known as qi instead of modern concepts of vitamins, minerals and so forth. The goal in Chinese nutrition, as with all else in Chinese Medicine, is to balance yin and yang. For example, an important consideration in Chinese Medicine nutrition is the temperature various foods generate when being digested. Foods are classified as either hot, warm, neutral, cool or cold. Someone who is too hot inside, for example, will benefit from eating more cooling foods. While this concept may sound strange as first, nutritionist all over the world hail the traditional Chinese diet as being highly nutritious and well balanced.

Exercise and Stress Reduction

Chinese Medicine is all about energy (qi). As beings, we constantly burn energy and must replenish this by bringing in outside energy in the form of food and air (yin and yang energy). All health problems are caused by energy problems and so improving our energy brings about natural healing. Exercise or movement plays an important role in our energy levels not only because we burn energy with movement, but because our bodies need to move in order to process food and air and convert it into useable energy.

The Chinese developed highly sophisticated exercises based on energy principals, that help improve energy circulation and how we process food and air. Advice may be given on self- acupressure/massage techniques, breathing practices and various exercises including walking, stretching or qi-gong.

Our thoughts, worries and emotions consume a great deal of energy and for many people represent their single greatest energy drain. Many people can benefit from practicing simple stress reduction techniques. Those most commonly used in Chinese Medicine are breathing and meditative techniques and special exercises.
